This Fine Arts Magnet High School provided the unique challenge of accommodating classroom and laboratory
facilities, a media center, gymnasium, offices, as well as state-of-the art rehearsal and performance spaces. The project
site, the ruins of a defunct mill, was constrained on two sides by the historic Augusta Canal. Appreciating the mill’s
Architectural significance, much of the iconic brick masonry was preserved and incorporated into the realized design.
New construction was crafted to emulate the mill’s forms and masonry work to create a functional, holistic, and contextual
project.
“This is a building
that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional for students. Through
the incorporation of the existing historical Architecture with modern design elements, the building exudes warmth and historical
charm. The design of the campus allows for fluid movement from one activity to the next and provides our students with a variety
of spaces to showcase their talents. The classrooms are spacious and designed
to meet the needs of 21st century learning.”
